July 3 2008 - Jim McGuire got tenure this morning! We all knew it was coming, but it was a lot of fun to celebrate! (Click here to see just part of the impromptu festivities).
June 2008 - I presented my research on the systematics of Heteronotia at the Evolution 2008 meetings in Minneapolis, MN; see Research. There was quite a large group of MVZers there, and everybody did such a great job with their talks and posters.
May - July 2008 - Mitzy Pepper from Scott Keogh’s lab is visiting the MVZ to strengthen collaboration on Australian gecko research, with a focus on Heteronotia! Team Heteronotia is becoming quite a formidable force.
April 2008 - Two undergraduate students working with me on Heteronotia have obtained prestigious honors! Lesley Pasman and Brandon Endo both received the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship and were admitted into the Biology Fellows Program, both of which offer ~$3500 in summer stipend. They can only choose one...choices, choices! Congratulations to you both!
March 2008 - The book, Biology of the Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina) is published by John Hopkins University Press! It contains great contributions. Order it from Amazon or from John Hopkins University Press.
December 2007 - My research on mitochondrial genome evolution in 3N1 parthenogenetic forms of Heteronotia binoei has appeared in the December issue of Molecular Biology and Evolution!
July 2007 - With Mike Kearney, Jessica Ridenour, and Craig Moritz, I got to travel all around Western Australia looking for Heteronotia! See Pictures.
June 2007 - I presented my research on the evolution of duplications in the mitochondrial genomes of parthenogenetic Heteronotia at Evolution 2007 (Christchurch, New Zealand). See Research.
